Lupe Fiasco and Asher Roth to perform at Temple University’s Liacouras Center

Temple University’s Liacouras Center hosts some pretty talented athletes during basketball season, but the rap scene is going to steal the spotlight this Saturday. Rap sensation Lupe Fiasco and frat-boy rapper Asher Roth will be making a stop in the city of brotherly love as double headliners.
Chicagoian Lupe Fiasco is making the trip to Philly as part of a college tour before he drops his much-anticipated third album, “Lasers”.
After being left out of the MTV’s 2009 “Top 10 Hottest Rapper List”, Fiasco re-released an extremely hot track called “Fire” (no pun intended) to make his case that he should have been included. But don’t let the list give you the wrong idea. Fiasco has evolved as a great rapper of this time with his smooth flow and his intense lyrics.
Hoping to reach more listeners with his third album, Fiasco’s sophomore album “The Cool” only sold 143,407 copies in its first week, while Lil’ Wayne’s “Tha Carter III” sold over 1 million copies in its first week. After seeing Fiasco’s and Lil’ Wayne’s live performances at recent years Virgin Mobile Festivals, Fiasco outperformed Wayne’s performance with a great live band and a great mix of his first two albums, not to mention that Lil’ Wayne showed up an hour late on stage. Come and check out what Fiasco has to offer with his new album expected to drop in December.
Asher Roth definitely doesn’t deserve to be on MTV’s “Top 10 Hottest Rapper List” but, who doesn’t like his hit “I Love College,” especially on a college tour. Roth was born just 20 miles from Philadelphia, so he should put on a great show for his Philly natives and thousands of college kids who can relate first-hand to his lyrics about beer pong and “freshmen” chants. Roth’s debut album “Asleep in the Bread Aisle” is a pop hip-hop album with some big name features like Cee-Lo and Keri Hilson.
If you’re looking for big name rappers with a crazy college crowd, and some great music, look no further. This concert is only $18 to the public and $13 if you’re a Temple student. So, fellow Philly college students of Drexel, Villanova, and UPenn, make your way to Temple University for a great show. Doors open at 7:30 and the concert starts at 9:00, but get there early because this show is going to be packed!
