[sugar-free] march 4 – march 11

March 4, 2010 Grab Bag No Comments

what’s on sugar-free for the week of march 4 through march 11:

[ac+r debut] The Dub-C Show
“Dub-C, also known as West Chester, Pennsylvania. The town best known for its scrawny white ‘college-loving’ rappers, and its shopping cart crashing professional skateboarders. I’m not really known for anything but I’d like to play music for you on Sunday evenings. Join me as I feature some of West Chester’s finest local independent artists, intermixed with whatever indie/alternative/hip hop I’m listening to at the time, as well as your requests.” – Sam
Listen to The Dub-C Show on Sundays, from 7pm to 10pm.

[ac+r golden show] Alive in Bed-Stuy w/ special guest Christopher Paul Stelling
Spencer took the airwaves by storm last week for this debut show and killed it with great selection of on-the-rise acts from NYC and beyond. He took his show the next level this week, inviting friend and super talented artist Christopher Paul Stelling to join him during his show. Three hours of pure audio bliss ensued. If you missed it, we’ll heat it up for your listening pleasure all this week. Check out Christopher Paul Stelling’s myspace for more music.

Listen to Alive in Bed-Stuy every Wednesday, from noon to 3pm.

Ellie Goulding’s Lights

Ellie Goulding released her first LP this week and Paige wrote a blog about her to acquaint you with this little red-hot pop starlet.

“Almost like the Chinese Zodiac has an annual animal, there’s almost always a electro-pop starlet that stands out as the hallmark of the year. You’ve had “The Year of Little Boots” last year, and maybe “The Year of Lily Allen” the year before that, but I’m calling it now: 2010 is going to be “The Year of Ellie Goulding.”

Digitally buy her album here.

Yeasayer’s Odd Blood
The Johns of Jammin’ with the Johns are quite pleased with Yeasayer’s new album. They discussed the band’s sound’s transformation to a more poppy-dancy appeal. And they can’t get enough of it. Commence dancing now.

Gorillaz’ Plastic Beach
The new Gorillaz’ album has been streaming on a handful of music sites, so we’d remiss not to include it in this week’s sugar-free. Comment your thoughts on tracks! Which one is your favorite?
Pre-order the album here.

[ac+r boost] The Dish

DJ Zealous took a small hiatus from ac+r, but he’s back! And we couldn’t be happier to hear him again, dishing out the hottest hip-hop tracks north of the Mason-Dixon Line. Listen to The Dish Tuesdays from 8pm to 10pm and Saturdays for your pregame, 7pm-9pm.

[ac+r boost] Impromptu What’s Good
Heath is one of our newest Djs, but arguably one of our more fun personalities. See a different side of this teacher-by-day, musically-fueled-man by night. This is pretty much what happens after a hard week of work, an even harder happy hour and then the sudden urge to be on-air.
Listen to What’s Good every Tuesday and Thursday, from 6pm to 8pm.
