We all spend a majority of our time online. Facebook, blogging, dare I say Myspace (no offense if you’re still logged into that but its a little 2005 for me), not to mention e-mail and aim, it’s no surprise that shopping has gone virtual as well. I personally use online shopping as the lazy-window-shopping, I can check out what’s hot, what’s selling, and what’s on-sale from the comfort of my bedroom. So, in no particular order the following websites I deem the hottest on the web:

1. Modcloth.com

This online shopping destination offers vintage looks at a reasonable price. Dresses, tops, shoes and accessories are available in trendy to more classic looks. One of the cooler features of the website is their “Be The Buyer” program in which the shopper, being you, can go through pages of clothes voting for the items you want to be featured on the website to be purchased! A recent item I have found that has really floored me was their faux-fur vest (don’t worry PETA lovers) from Jack by BB Dakota, only for $64.99! I cannot even begin to tell you how many times I’ve daydreamed about wearing this vest with a long-sleeve black tee, skinny jeans and my over-the-knee black leather boots. Check this site out ASAP, every time I log-in a see something new, its truly a great fashion resource, affordable and unique, what’s not to love?
(I literally MUST own this, love, love, love, LOVE)

2. Forever 21.com

An oldie, but a goody. Forever21.com allows you to shop their hectic stores in an organized and relaxing manner. One of the best features of this site (besides not having to navigate the stores full of 13 year old overzealous girls) is their yellow tag deals, which offers items of clothing on sale for a limited time (not that F21 prices can get much better- denim for $15.80!?) The website also features clothing not easily found in stores, including their active wear, a larger array of accessories and maternity clothing. Not to mention, you can shop Forever 21′s other branches like, Heritage 1981, Twelve by Twelve (their version of couture), Faith 21 (plus sizes) and their Menswear. Overall, the biggest advantage of shopping F21 online is avoiding the messes and crowding of the in-store experience…. unless you’re visiting the new flagship in New York City… I will put up with teeny-boppers there, no problem.

3. SouthMoonUnder.com
I may be biased because I truly am in love with this store, but only recently has the store opened up near my home and I can finally access the greatness that is South Moon Under. So the great thing about the website, it allows you to check out all the hot merchandise without searching out a store nearest you (which, I realized until recently, may not be that close at all). SMU features great designers like Free People, BCBG, BB Dakota (I’m really loving them this blog), Hanky Panky and super cute swimsuits, beach gear, jewelry and accessories. While the store is only the expensive side, online offers a great Sale section to check out all the goods for a wallet-friendly price.

4. Nordstrom.com

Nordstrom is one of the best department stores around offering reasonably priced super-cute items, shoes and accessories. While the in-store experience is always full of customer-service and clean easy to navigate floor plans, online offers the organization of in-store with the out-of-stock in-store items at your fingertips and items only offered online. Not to mention you can organize the sale items in increments of 50, 60 and 70% off, depending on how much you are willing to spend. And Nordies being customer-friendly offers you to shop online and pick up in-store, the instant gratification of in-store shopping with the convenience of shopping from your couch.

5. Shopbop.com

This website is orgasmic.I literally cannot express my love for this site enough. Some of the most beautiful (and expensive) clothing on the runways are offered to you online. Brands like Joie, J Brand, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Only Hearts, Rachel Roy, Rag and Bone… stop me now, we could be here all night. Even if you can’t afford the items on the site, the window shopping aspect alone make this website worth visiting. There are the usual sale sections and designer books, there is also a look-book section where you can see how to wear the vast variety of clothing. I literally want you to navigate away from this blog and to this site if your passionate about fashion because this website is truly art.
( A look-book to help navigate the denim section of the website- ps if you want to buy me this outfit please e-mail me at chelsealde….. jk. but not really)

In-store shopping can get overwhelming so the next time you’re flipping channels on the TV while facebook stalking and you’re too lazy to get to the mall, check out some of these site, I’m guaranteeing you will spend some money before leaving your couch!

Cheers Elephant – Space and Time

Do you have anywhere to be tonight? Because we could be here awhile… If you’re looking for an intense lyrical and harmonic conversation about what’s more than you or I, Cheers Elephant is the band to listen to. Rooted in and out of Philadelphia with a history that dates back to a middle school punk band, Cheers Elephant is Derek Krzywicki, Roberto Kingston, Jordan del Rosario, and Travelin’ Mat. I had the opportunity to casually share a brew with front man Derek to learn more about who they are and where they’re going.

Having been around since 2007, Cheers Elephant has by this time developed a solid footing the in Philly’s music scene, which Derek notes has a healthy community feel built on mutual respect for fellow Philly bands. However, Philly fans have to question how easy it is for bands to break out of this city. “In my mind, the same number of bands are coming out of Philly as any other city,” explains Derek, “but the view is warped. People’s perception is that there aren’t many bands in Philly.” Locals do feel that these home grown bands should be expanding more because we, as Philadelphians, know and love them and so should the rest of the world! Obviously. This is the typical Philadelphian attitude: holding our ideals superior and blindly misinterpreting why the rest of the world doesn’t get it.

Well, let’s just say that the rest of the world doesn’t get it just yet, as the band does not receive nearly as much brotherly love in other places compared to Philly. Let’s face it; fans feel the same way about the lack of openness in other cities. If you’ve ever been to a show in NYC and the crowd surrounding you stands pretentiously cross-armed as if they don’t know how to feel a beat, then you know what I’m talking about. However, universal acceptance is a result of “sheer odds and mathematics,” notes Derek. The more you put yourself out there, the more likely people will know your name. Today Cheers Elephant is trying to build an upbeat reputation in other cities and expand their network of connections and fans alike with a coastal tour.

The eclectic feel of the first album makes it difficult for Cheers Elephant and fans to classify their sound. Depending on which song you listen to, they could fall into different genres: bluegrass folk, psychedelic rock, alternative country. The sound is often reminiscent of epics like The Beatles, Beach Boys, and The Kinks not only because of similar song structures but also for the utilization of 3 part harmonies.
The underlining commonality between songs is the lyrics, which are greatly inspired by science, philosophy, and the world around us. The theme of the first album, which never hints to love found or lost, is all about “inner peace and experiencing your own personal grace amongst the universe.” A sentiment of a hippie? Perhaps, but Derek has never relied on imagination-enhancing drugs to answer life’s big questions. In fact, he reveals that the song “Continuation” is about not finding solace in drugs for your own happiness or self-acceptance. “You don’t need drugs to celebrate life,” Derek proclaims.

So where do the trippy songs on the first album come from? “You never know where music comes from when it comes to you appropriately,” says Derek. “It doesn’t involve thought. It just comes out of the sky. Somehow it’s like all our brains are radio transmitters.” The song “Space and Time” for example, a classic crowd favorite, came to fruition randomly during a practice session. “Beats just starting coming out, vocals started coming out of mouths, and the next thing you know we all looked around, and King pointed to all of us and said ‘SONG! NEW SONG!’

Despite the band’s easy-going personalities, relaxed views on life, and the fact that dates are illusive and irrelevant, the foursome has been in the studio recording a “proper” album for “two years too long,” says Derek. Perhaps the most critical band member, Derek feels that the first self-titled album, which was really a collection of demos, lacked continuity because it was recorded in multiple locations. His perfectionist attitude, mostly toward his own work vocally, leaves him a bit restless about the details of the album, feeling like they coulda-woulda-shoulda done things differently. As the artist, you look back on you’re work and easily hear all your imperfections that are inaudible to the listener’s ears. Derek explains, “John Lennon and Paul McCartney, for example, were never able to hear their own greatness as an outsider.” This is the bitter-sweet curse that plagues many musicians.

Even fans have commented that after seeing Cheers Elephant play in person, the first album does not suitably represent them. They are proudly known for their lively and eccentric shows that appeal to all senses, but recognize the difficultly translating this energy into a recording. Frankly, that is not necessarily what the band is trying to accomplish. Derek clarifies that in the right state of mind at a show, you can let go of your emotions, but there is something truly intimate that’s captured in the studio that can’t be portrayed in a club. Nonetheless, Derek boldly states, “I am striving to be the best front man in Philadelphia.” What’s he or the rest of the band doing differently than other dudes out there? “What did David Byrne of the Talking Heads do differently than anyone else?” he questions back. The true answer is that it’s Cheers Elephant’s contagious inner spirit and inkling for big things that set them apart and make them a must-go-see-for-yourself.

Derek may have answered life’s big questions for himself, but the band is still exploring new realms and defining who they are musically. Cheers Elephant is progressing the first album’s eclectic feel and embracing a style that’s uniquely their own. The world can expect the new album to be much more melodic, less rhythm driven, and to be released in late September, of course keeping in mind that dates are illusive.

A little over a year ago Miniature Tiger’s Tell It To The Volcano was in heavy rotation for me after seeing them open for Ben Folds. The band probably can be best described as nerd, pop-rock. Tell It To The Volcano was a crisp and solid full-length from the Phoenix natives, who also continually seemed to be popping up on various tours and festivals.

This past fall when I saw that Miniature Tigers would be opening for the morning benders on their tour in support of Big Echo, I was surprised yet excited that band had the opportunity to branch out and perhaps reach a further demographic of listeners. The band are ready for the release of their follow-up, and are calling it Fortress. Even crazier, is that Chris Chu of the morning benders helped produce a few tracks on the album, and Alan Palomo of Neon Indian-fame produced their first single “Gold Skull,” which is up for free download.

The new single sounds COMPLETELY different from anything off of Tell It To The Volcano, but it consequently rules. “Gold Skull” is fantastic, and I think a lot of people who have never even heard of Miniature Tigers will finally start to take notice of this under-appreciated band . Go download the single here and get familiar with Miniature Tigers, which comes courtesy of Stereogum. You can also pre-order Fortress here.

On today's audiocandy+radio, Paige played the morning benders' "I Was Wrong" from their 2008 debut, Talking Through Tin Cans. She mentioned the band's re-worked version of the song, which they call the "Nico Version."

the morning benders (again, so stubborn with the lowercase letters) recorded this new version of the song for an exclusive iTunes Live Sessions EP. As Paige said, this beautiful acoustic ballad is testament to just how brilliant Chris Chu and company are as musical artists. They took an upbeat piano and guitar sing-along and stripped it down to its bare necessities and adding a double dose of emotion. You can hear the heartbreak in Chu's voice as he recalls, "I've seen love kick a man while he's down when you think that you're alone," and later when he argues "I've been waiting too patiently for life to turn its back on me and not just go my way."

Artist: The National
Title: High Violet
Release Date: May 11
Label: 4AD

Tucked eight songs deep into The National’s fifth LP, High Violet, is a slow burner that bottles up everything about this band into five-and-a-half minutes of bliss. A slow, melodic lullaby of piano and acoustic guitar waltz with Matt Berninger’s moody baritone and subtle drum beats. “We don’t bleed when we don’t fight/Go ahead, go ahead, lose our shirts in the fire tonight,” Berninger croons while the music swells behind him.

It’s a song you’d expect to build and build before exploding into something heavier towards the end, but it never happens. Berninger’s vocals grow more eager and yearning as the song rolls along, but this song is a slow jam in true National fashion. We’re left with something that’s beautiful in its simplicity.

The National have become masters of this game – making lush rock songs that don’t ever really rock. High Violet feels like a natural follow-up to 2007’s Boxer – we have the same brooding melodies littered with raw emotion. Take “Afraid of Everyone,” which features backup vocals by Sufjan Stevens. A slow guitar riff opens into Berninger’s paranoia: “With my kid on my shoulders I try/Not to hurt anybody I love/But I don’t have the drugs to sort it out.” It’s not until the 1:15 mark that we get percussion and more guitar, making “Afraid of Everyone” one of many slow-builders scattered throughout High Violet.

The band – made up of Berninger, Bryce and Aaron Dessner (twins) and Bryan and Scott Devendorf (brothers) – do branch out from what has become that very formulaic sound of theirs. On album opener “Terrible Love,” we’re given distorted, glitchy guitar riffs that fit the song’s eerie, maybe-I’m-better-off-without-drugs tone. “But I won’t follow you into the rabbit hole,” Berninger solemnly chants while a persistent, thumping beat swirls up, making this a perfect driving song.

It’s tough to pick out a weak spot on this record – most songs flow seamlessly into each other and High Violet really does feel like a meticulous, planned-out work of art. A couple of songs – “Anyone’s Ghost” comes to mind right away – are weaker than the ones surrounding them. That’s not to say they’re bad songs. They’re not. But when you’ve got gems like “Runaway” and the gorgeous, fall-in-love-with-me “Conversation 16,” there are going to be natural low points on the record.

The album closes with “Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks,” a song the band have been kicking around a live shows for a while now. It’s a slow ballad with simple piano chord progression, strings and, perhaps, Berninger’s most emotional-sounding vocals on the album. “All the very best of us/string ourselves up for love.” The song sounds like a band that has mastered its signature sound, a band that has grown comfortable with that sound.

And as the song closes out with lyrics like “Oh, the waters are rising/There’s still no surprising you,” we can’t help but feel like this is The National’s message to us: this is our sound, we’re sticking with it. And we’re here to stay.

Rating: 8.9/10

People, I am filled with the most lovely dose of magic right now. Just returned home from the best show I’ve seen all week, and YES, that is rivaling favorites like Broken Social Scene, Minus The Bear, and Jonsi, all of which I saw in the last seven days. Patrick Watson’s performance at the First Unitarian Church Side Chapel (maybe 50 people in the pews of a breathtaking nook with wooden detailing and stained glass windows) was just something short of majestic. Imagine throwing on “Tracy’s Waters” or “Where The Wild Things Are” off the album Wooden Arms (two distinct favorites from tonight) and locking yourself in a confined holy place. Know what I’m talking about? If not, take yourself and your iPod to your nearest place of worship, close your eyes, and pray with Patrick Watson. I don’t know if I even remember how to pray OR to who, but damn I felt like I was doing it tonight. Now open your eyes, imagine godly flashes of dark&light and four creatively talented human beings successfully experimenting with unconventional instruments (including a saw, a spoon, and a balloon) and beautifully utilizing the classics at new levels. At first, I questioned how they could pull it off in such a small space, but the ambiance was serenely intimate to say the least. Adding to that is Watson’s young-at-heart presence, which makes others feel like care-free kids again, and man, let me tell you, that’s such a special feeling. So happy I accompanied myself to tonight’s show; I bought 3 tickets thinking I had 3 friends, but I didn’t even have one! [insert sad, awkward laugh here]. Anyway I wish I could end all my days with such beautiful serenades like one I received tonight, even if we’re all going to hell anyway. I’ma go kiss the stars now…

When Brooklyn outfit Detachment Kit split, two of its members, Charlie Davis and Ian Menard, weren’t quite ready to hang up their guitars. They grabbed good friend Jess Birch and formed Bronze, a still-Brooklyn-based baby band with a grown-up sound.

Charlie and Ian left behind the grungy, lo-fi slowcore of Detachment Kit for deeper, multi-layered grooves with Bronze. Their self-titled debut EP, just five songs long, offers a wide spectrum of sound that shows a ton of promise.

We’ve got Beach House-esque dream pop with “Deep Freeze” and light, breezy summer fare with “Sunny Day,” which sounds like a tossed-away b-side from Delorean’s Subiza. “Count to Two” gives us something heavier and shows why the band were openers for buzzed-about (and James Murphy produced) Free Energy earlier this year. “Sara Lisa” closes it all out with a taut package of all of the above.

But the real charmer here is the opener, “Horses.” It kicks in with the space-to-Earth broadcast from NASA’s Apollo 8 mission, when man first left Earth’s orbit. The fuzzy voice is slowly overcome by dueling guitar riffs and finally fades out into a blissful explosion of sunny pop. “Take a ride with me tonight/Are we ever gonna feel alright?” the lyrics ask. Yes, we are.

Artist: Delorean

Album Title: Subiza

Label: True Panther

Release Date: Out now digitally, CD/LP out June 8

First impressions are everything, so it’s a good thing Spanish foursome Delorean chose “Stay Close” as the opener for the sprawling album Subiza.

It’s a majestic song, full of washed-out vocals and house beats and beach synths. “Now I’m lost/Why can’t I reach you?” the band asks in its Animal-Collective-esque harmony, before a rapid-fire chorus of “Get up, get up, get up, get up, get up, get up.” Think Merriweather Post Pavilion’s “Brothersport” meets a house DJ stoned out of his mind on a Barcelona beach.

That’s the vibe all of Subiza gives off – an airy, breezy sun-shiney, summery, feel-good trip for the ears. This is a collection of nine complex songs, each with its own plateau and climax. We’ve got the gorgeous “Real Love,” which has a relentless, pulsating synth and a floating chorus of “ahhhs” that gives off the feeling of, well, real love.

The tracklist here reads like an epic love story, with titles that perfectly encompass the light, feel-good vibe of the album. We’ve got: Stay Close, Real Love, Endless Sunset, Grow, Simple Graces, Infinite Desert, Come Wander, Warmer Places, It’s All Ours.

Album highlight “Simple Graces” is crammed in the middle of the set – which, I’ll admit, sounds monotonous in parts. “Graces,” though, epitomizes Subiza’s sound. There’s, again, the trippy, washed-out, barely decipherable vocals. A steady bass line accompanies the jungle beat and the rest of the deep, bright instrumentation that makes the song a quintessential summer jam.

But Delorean may have tried a bit too hard with Subiza to capture that light feeling of the summer sun. There’s the aforementioned monotony of some of the songs, which bleed into each other and never really stand out as single entities. 25 listens deep, and I still couldn’t tell you which song is “Endless Sunset” and which is “Come Wander” just by listening to them.

But when Subiza is on its game, it’s a glorious trip for the ears. “Stay Close” is a definite keeper and, as the album’s lead single, will be most listeners’ first introduction to the band.

Subiza ends the way it begins – on a strong and high (in more ways than one) note. A simple drum beat grows into something deeper – layers upon layers of synths, piano, guitar, fuzzed-out vocals and bass that explode into a wild conglomeration of sound. It all drops at the two-and-a-half-minute mark into an epic star-gazing pop melody before quickly picking up again. This moment is maybe Delorean at their best – toying with your ears with something so complex and deep before replacing it with something simpler, but more beautiful.

I’ll admit that I liked Subiza more upon first listen than I do at listen number 26. Don’t get me wrong, it is a gorgeous, deep, brilliant and fantastic record that deserves many accolades. It’ll likely find a strong place in my year-end Top 10 list. I just can’t shake the feeling it may have been better served as an EP with a couple of tracks shaved from the final cut.

Rating: 8.4/10

Sleigh Bells’ highly-anticipated debut, “Treats,” is quickly approaching its May 11 release. In anticipation, the Brooklyn duo have released the lead track from the album, “Tell ‘Em.”

It’s Sleigh Bells as we have come to know and love them — fuzzed out grunge, dance pop. This track has the potential to blow out your speakers. (Just like the band blew out the speakers at The Mill at Trinity College in Hartford earlier this month.

You can download the track HERE, at the official Sleigh Bells Web site, infinitybells.com

Here’s the “Treats” album art, which M.I.A. revealed via Pitchfork’s Twitter (WORLDS COLLIDE!) on Monday, with the tracklist. (Sleigh Bells are signed to M.I.A.’s label N.E.E.T. Recordings and “Treats” will be released on Mom and Pop Records.)

01 Tell ‘Em
02 Kids
03 Riot Rhythm
04 Infinity Guitars
05 Run the Heart
06 Rachel
07 Rill Rill
08 Crown On the Ground
09 Straight A’s
10 A/B Machines
11 Treats
