so as you may or may not have heard from our show the other day, I’ve been on my grunge mode. Thankfully this is not in reference to hygiene, but more in reference to my uniform. I’m seeing plaids, leathers, loose fits, studs and layers… and if you haven’t shuddered already, then I’m glad we’re on the same page but for those of you who may be a little more skeptical, fear not: I’ve got some sweet visuals to assuage your fiery skepticism… but proceed with caution nevertheless >:)
^ both of these are Erin Wasson via studded hearts… I feel like she oozes cool and confident, all while convincing you that she truly “threw on” her outfit that morning (or mid afternoon)
In the same vein as this grungy, eff-what-you-think concept, I’ve also decided that I’d like to pursue “the gypsie”. While the lifestyle of a gypsie maybe unrealistic (let alone dangerous in today’s free world), I do believe the free-spirited, fairy-like breath that I associate with a gypsie to be right up my alley. Should be interesting with the leather/plaid/studs but we’ll see how it all works out..
^ This is from Vogue Australia March 2010, and I love this whole pastel-tips fad that has taken over. As much of a fad as I’m sure it’ll be, don’t be too surprised if you see me sporting some unnaturally bright colors. Maybe not pink.. but probably something more along these lines..

(via studded hearts)
..or exactly along those lines. sans malboros, but nobody’s judgin.

Definitely on my bucket list is to attend NYC fashion week, even just to be in the city while it’s going on would be good enough for me. However, I’m still in school so I have to take in the new looks from the comfort of my apartment via many of the blogs covering the shows. While many of the designers go for looks that aren’t ready-to-wear, I’ve found inspiring pieces from many shows (and some I’d even dare to wear)…
BCBG- Fall 2010 Collection.
O.M.G. Seriously I haven’t been moved by BCBG so much in recent times. BUT their fall 2010 collection is beyond on-point. Literally all of their designs could walk right off the runway and into a swanky nightclub, chic restaurant or my closet. I love this collection and hats off to them because even with staying trendy they’ve made their clothes wearable by the everyday fashionista.
Let me just say: I. Am. Obsessed. With. This. Obsessed:

Monique Llhuillier- Fall 2010
Lilhuillier, a designer I don’t really keep in my closet, caught my eye with her designs at Bryant Park this year. While a little darker and more Victorian (the lace makes me think of that) I really enjoyed her collection. Her pieces aren’t very out-of-the box but maybe that’s why I like them. They hold a very classic feel to them and I especially love this outfit: (lacy tights get me every time!)

Victoria Beckham- Fall 2010
Yes, you read that correctly, Victoria Beckham had her very own show this year. And, while the models walked down the runway looking like clones of the ex-Spice Girl, Beckham has a flair for fashion (no surprise here really considering she was the Posh one). Beckham has this understated tone of glamour in all of her pieces. I love that the first part of her collection is all in nude. I’m obsessed with nude for this year and she’s seems to be too. Also, the lines of her outfits feel like a cross between a hot- french woman and a space-age glamour goddess. Maybe I just really like her collection but I think not only is it wearable but it really would make any woman feel sexy. Do you think mini David Beckhams will pop up her in accessories line? Fingers crossed!
Ms. Beckham is incredible for this look alone, gotta love it:

Also, I couldn’t go with out mentioning:
Michael Kors. Hot. (In all honesty, where the eff am I going to wear pic # 1.. but its all still gorgeous)

This is STUNNING:

Obviously there are hundreds of designers I could feature, these designers just caught my eye off-hand while perusing the blogs. Just from the pictures you can see the week was exciting and full of amazing creations. Hopefully one day I’ll be showing off my own pics from the shows, but until then my fellow blogger’s posts will have to do.
PS: On a personal note- I would like to send a big shout out to Billy Reid and the team in NYC, they were named “2010 Best New Menswear Designer In America” by GQ! (I interned for them in NYC this summer and they are an amazing bunch with amazingggg clothes) Super happy for you all congrats!!!

Check him out at: www.billyreid.com
One thing I love (for the most part): the unexpected. Whether its 3 feet of snow, an extra long train on my dress or a pharoah monche track in Charlie’s Angels (that part made that lame bad guy so much cooler), I’ve found the unexpected to be mostly entertaining, refreshing and often times inspiring. This being said, I’ve stumbled across some amazzzzing pieces that have surprised me in their perfection. Something about each of these things is slightly off-putting, but still so right at the same time. I’m digging the whole morticia adams morbid-gothic-glam, but also the Lady Gaga what-will-she-wear-next disco fab. Hyphenated descriptions are just byproducts.
^all of these beauties are via bonadrag.com
^LOVE these Jeffrey Campbells via karmaloop.com
^Everything about this is amazing- the contrast between the dress color, her skin, hair and hat, the softness of her outfit and the bad-assness of her tattoos… I may have been inspired to get a scenic flora tattooed on my thigh. keke stay tooned. (via studded hearts)
This mix of dark and glitter also makes for interesting playlists… I’ve currently got Band of Horses, “The Funeral” and Little Boots, “The Remedy” playing back to back and somehow I find that they vibe perfectly with my mood
more later! ..maybe with some flashy olympic figure skater gear…saucy!

Plane ticket? Check. Festival pass? Check. Tent? Check. Looks like you are all set for a fun-filled music extravaganza, except wait. What in God’s name are you going to wear? Well since I have currently purchased tickets to my first music festival, Coachella, I thought I’d take a look at what trend-setting celebrities decided to wear to 2009’s Coachella and see what some staples of the festival might be this year.
LA in April I’ve read is pretty warm, so coming from freezing MD temps I’m pretty excited. I’ve realized that just because I’m attending an outdoor festival doesn’t mean I can’t be cute. For instance, take a look at Kate Bosworth. She is trendy but comfortable. A tank, a skirt and a jean jacket in case she gets cold makes for the perfect lounging outfit… However, watch if you prefer the cross-legged sitting stance.. you may want to trade in that oh-so-adorable skirt for a cute pair of linen shorts or better yet denim shorts ( but lets keep an eye out for the denim (jacket) on denim (shorts).. its still a no-no- so plan accordingly).
Because LA promises sunshine, showing skin is acceptable (and probably encouraged by most). Take for instance Kristin Cavallari and Tara Reid (not a fav of mine but her outfits pretty darn cute). Not only are they both rocking hippy-chic, the light-weight gauzy material will keep them cool in the LA sun and the cut-out on Kristin’s top will allow for a nice tan (an added plus I may add). Despite my personal opinion on the girls… I love Kristin- not even gonna lie, their laid-back Cali look is perfect for the occasion.
Finally, Cat Deeley, the host of So You Think You Can Dance? ( not really a celebrity… but her outfit is adorable) sports a short onesie that is tres-stylish and appropriate for the occasion. Her entire outfit is actually on-point.. simple jewelry, shades and trendy sandals complete her look.. she’s comfortable, cute and ready to rock.
Thanks to celebs at last years festival I know for sure my suitcase will definetley include the following, and your’s should too:
- light weight sundresses
- denim shorts, onesies, or linen shorts
- gausy lightweight tops
- jean jacket/ other form of jacket incase it gets chilly
- shades, simple jewelry that can be paired with every outfit
- flat sandals- I still love the gladiator look
- sunscreen, my digital camera and my Coachella 3-day pass.
See you there
Its 2010. Time for you to catch up on fashion trends and finally make the move to updating your wardrobe, however navigating the world of fashion can be a bit tricky, lucky for you I have compiled my 4 favorite trends for 2010 (with the help of a little magazine called Vogue, maybe you’ve heard of it?)
While I do have a passion for fashion I feel runway looks never really translate to the real-world. These 4 trends can be found at any local store and paired together or sported separately your fashion IQ is about to increase.
Trend 1: The Trench Coat-
Trench coats have been around forever, you may be thinking that they only time you’ve come in to contact with a trench is in the movie the Matrix or memories of your dad coming home from work on a rainy day, but its what you wear the trench with that makes all the difference. So this Spring, pair that military inspired trench with contrasting feminine looks. Sparkly tops (or skirts, a fav of mine!), short flowing dresses, or styles that drape, and you will have yourself a very cute outfit and be prepared for those cool Spring temps.
Trend 2: Natural/Neutral Colors
I can honestly say one of my staples this past summer was my cream patent pumps and the color scheme is still in for 2010. Accessories in the neutral color scheme like scarves, shoes and jewelry adds a classic and refined look to any outfit (just make sure when worn with white you have multiple shades of neutrals going on- not just a white dress and cream pumps… it looks like you’re colorblind, so take that outfit and add a nude cuff or a cream and brown belt and you are all set!) Also, when wearing the neutral shades make sure you have a strictly defined silhouette. If not, you may end up looking like your wearing a potato sack… not cute.
Trend 3: Lingerie
So I’ll save my lingerie tips for another post (working in Nordstrom Lingerie has taught me well), this trend is about incorporating those sexy looks into your everyday wear. Lace accents and corseted looks are in, and should emit a strong, sleek feminine look. However, this trend can incorporate the two previously mentioned trends: first the lingerie look in neutral shades is tres-sexy and can be paired with many things. Secondly, because lingerie is so uber-feminine pairing it with the stiffer military look will give you that contrast you need.
Trend 4: Leather
If you have seen any magazine this year you already know leather is back. Once associated with bikers and the 80’s, leather has made a sophisticated and trendsetting comeback. Jackets, leggings, boots all in leather is very hot. (however, I might steer clear of wearing all those together in one outfit..) A twist to the leather trend is wearing them in earthy tones. Leather in shades of brown and tan offer a softer look still with the rocker-chic edge.
Well, thats it for now. These four trends can be found anywhere from Forever 21 to Nordstrom and Saks. However, even with a budget having these four staples in your closet for 2010 will allow you to create a ton of outfits and spice up your wardrobe.
