Rihanna, just like Chris Brown, is coming out with a new album. Chris’ album is a comeback, Rihanna’s is more of a empowerment type thing. And just like most empowerment missions, Rihanna feels the best way to do that is to wear as little clothes as possible. (See album cover.) I’m sure this makes abused women everywhere feel like ripping off their clothes and getting a divorce the next time their husband slaps them.

But anyway, Rihanna’s single “Russian Roulette” has been generating a little buzz, so of course we had to bring it to your attention. It’s nothing special, but worth commenting on.

Every hip hop icon isn’t just a rapper. To be an icon, the rulebook states you must build an empire. Jay-Z “change[s] clothes” to head Def Jam, do a clothing line, own some clubs, etc. Same with Diddy. That motherfucker has made just the idea of working for him into a sellable product (See “Making the Band”, and “I Want to Work for Diddy”). So, in the interests of establishing myself as not just a DJ, but also a music video producer, I made a video for Rihanna’s single. See below.

Now that I got over the overwhelming temptation to blog about oneself in the third person let’s address this.

Chris Brown has a new album due out, entitled Graffiti. But what’s worse is, motherfucker dropped his single “I Can Transform Ya” (feat. Lil Wayne and Swizz Beats) a month ago and I didn’t hear about it.

I mean, can I be blamed for this? After all, most of the time anyone’s mentioned Chris Brown recently it’s always been accompanied with something along the lines of “Like, did you see Rhianna’s face?” (Who also has an upcoming album, Rated R, coming out soon as well).

Let’s analyze this shit for a second. “I Can Transform Ya” is clearly not just an over-produced track accompanied by mind-blowing visuals (see video below). I’d be willing to be half my tuition loan that somebody said those exact words to Chris while he was on house arrest for smacking Rhianna. All of a sudden, ala R. Kelly, our young domestic abuser underwent a serious P.R. campaign: instead of a 5 part music video series called Trapped in the Closet, Chris just stuffed all of his special effects and guest spots into one video. But the literal meaning of the title was just too good, so that put a nice pretty bow on the whole affair.

What’s the lesson from all this? The next time a politician fucks a stripper/ call girl/ campaign assistant (not that they’re mutually exclusive) they shouldn’t give a speech. They need to put out a rap video.

So it looks as though rap’s favorite midget (yeah, cheap joke) is headed to jail.

According to AllHipHop.com, Lil’ Wayne is going to jail for at least 8 months on a gun possession charge. And apparently he has other legal troubles as well, included -who would have guessed- drug possession charges.

He’ll probably be in one of those celebrity prison where they put people who have too much money to take it up the ass. That said, the real punishment is probably going to be the fact that Lil’ Wayne won’t be able to work inside. And for a man who records shit constantly (he has a separate tour bus for recording), that’s gonna be painful. Although I think Shyne recorded his Godfather album in prison, so who knows.

Wayne’s album The Rebirth, which features that semi awful (sorta on the fence about it) single “Prom Queen”, drops December.

My show has been facing big technical challenges lately, so we have not been rocking the mic recently. Just when you thought you got rid of me, we do a good old-fashioned blog post.

Underground rapper Tech N9ne will release his tenth studio album, K.O.D. (“King of Darkness”) on October 27, 2008. While Tech’s not your garden-variety hip hop, the album will feature some collabos with mainstream artists, such as Three 6 Mafia.

While Tech’s never been known for his sunny personality, “K.O.D.” takes his music to deeper depth of emotion than usual. Much of the album was inspired by his mother’s worsening health and other tramautic events going on in Tech’s life.

“K.O.D.” features the single “Show Me a God” (official video below), which pretty much sums up the emotional stuggle of the artist behind the album.

Look at all the visual symbolism in the video. English professors every where would have a field day with that shit. Rap’s getting all existentialist on you kids. Can you imagine Nietzsche or Kafka dropping a verse?

Also, Tech will be performing on Nov. 9 in Rochester at the Walter Street Music Hall. Definitely something you beatfans will want to see; shit, if I wasn’t broke, I’d go.
